IRIS 2006 National Fair

Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science

 

Dear Students, 

We hope that by now you are all set to give your best shot at the IRIS National Fair being held in Delhi from 6th to 9th December, 2006. To help make your trip to the National Fair hassle-free, we would like you to note the following: 

  1. Venue: Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. IIT is located in the Hauz Khas area in Delhi and is a very well known place and does not require any landmark. You are required to report at the Exhibition Hall on December 06, 2006 latest by 3 pm to start on your project setup, which should be ready for evaluation by 10:00am on December 07. A tentative schedule of the Fair is enclosed for your reference. A final schedule will be made available at the National Fair
  2. Travel: IRIS will reimburse travel costs for you and one guide / accompanying adult per project. Once you reach Delhi Railway Station, you can take a prepaid cab or auto rickshaw to the venue. A maximum of Rs 700/- (Rs. Seven hundred only) per person would be reimbursed as travel allowance only if the travel reimbursement form (to be provided at the venue) is duly filled with the right supporting documents/bills. Travel Reimbursement requests will not be entertained without proper bills / supporting documents.
  3. Accommodation: Modest accommodation will be provided to only out-station participants and ONE guide or accompanying adult from Dec. 06 to Dec. 10 2006. Since it would be very cold in Delhi at that time of the year, please carry some warm clothes & footwear along with you. Food arrangements will be made for you and one guide or accompanying adult per project.
  4. Uniform: All participants will be required to wear their school uniform on all days of the Fair. In case the participant does not have a school uniform because he/she studies in College or is working , the participant will have to come dressed formally.
  5. Judging: Guides / accompanying adults will not be allowed in the Exhibition Hall during Judging Sessions, which includes the Pre-judging & Interview Session.
 

Please make sure that you bring the following documents with you when you come to attend the National Fair:

  1. Project Data Book – all the data that you have collected during your project research.
  2. Log book – rough data that you scribble on this book, during your research.
  3. Project Synopsis. 
  4. Research Paper  (If any)
 

Please adhere to display guidelines mentioned in the Handbook. These will be implemented strictly at the Fair. Do not bring any inflammable articles to the National Fair. You will also not be allowed to conduct experiments at the Fair. So do bring photographs / video copies of your experiment and work area to display at the Fair. Also please read the ‘prohibited display items’ section of the IRIS Handbook.  

Computer Facilities

Nominal computers facility will be provided at the Fair only for project demonstrations on a sharing basis in a separate computer room. 

Any other requirements will have to be arranged by the participants. Students can also bring their own computers/ laptops. Please arrange for extension cords if you are bringing any instruments, models, computers, or other gadgets that require the use of electricity.

Evaluation criteria at the National Fair:

The panel of judges will use the following criteria for evaluation of your projects:

Project Improvement Session for Winners

This year a total of 4 individual and 2 team projects will be selected as the National Winners and would be invited for a Coaching Camp in Mumbai in the 2nd week of January 2007. A Project Improvement Session will be organized for these Winners after the Valediction Ceremony. This session is compulsory for all the winners along with their guides. Other participants may leave in the evening of 9th December, 2006 after the Valediction Ceremony. 

From the National Fair 4 individual and 2 team projects may be selected for participation at Intel ISEF to be held from May 13-18, 2007 at Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Participation in the ISEF is subject to evaluation at the coaching camp in Mumbai.
